THOMAS'S SUNDAY

The first Sunday after Easter is called Thomas's Sunday. The Bright (Easter) week ends with this day, which is like a replacement (repetition) of the Easter day itself, and therefore it is called Antipascha (Greek for "instead of Easter"). The divine service of this day remembers the appearance of resurrected Jesus Christ to the disciples on the "first day of the week in the evening" and the assurance of the apostle Thomas on the eighth day after Easter. Based on the Gospel reading of the feast (John 20: 19-31), the whole service of this day encourages believers to awaken from the sinful sleep, turn to the Sun of Truth, Christ, to strengthen the faith, and together with the apostle Thomas sincerely, joyfully exclaim: "My Lord and my God."

Troparion of the day
From the sealed tomb, You did shine forth O Life! / Through closed doors You did come to Your disciples, O Christ God! / Renew in us, through them, an upright spirit, / By the greatness of Your mercy, O Resurrection of all!

Kontakion of the day
Thomas touched Your life-giving side with an eager hand, O Christ God, / When You did come to Your apostles through closed doors. / He cried out with all: You are my Lord and my God!

HOLY THURSDAY

Troparion of this day:
When the glorious disciples were enlightened at the washing of their feet before the supper,
the impious Judas was darkened by the disease of avarice,
and to the lawless judges he betrayed You, the Righteous Judge.
Behold, this man because of avarice hanged himself.
Flee from the insatiable desire which dared such things against the Master!
O Lord Who deals righteously with all, glory to You!
